Top Five Ryanair Universal Myths

Top Five Ryanair Universal Myths

Monday, March 7th, 2011

Flying with Ryanair is a cinch if you avoid these evergreen myths about ‘those’ hand luggage rules.

Following the forums surrounding Ryanair lately, it seems that the same few queries crop up over and over again. Arguably and illogically, a person seems more likely to post their question on a forum than read the actual Ryanair rules themselves.

Thus, suitably ignorant of the actual rules, many flyers fall foul of them. This steady stream of people turn up at airports all over the country, telling their tale of woe to tired and exasperated Ryanair staff who have heard the same story several times in the last couple of hours.

“Daylight robbery” they cry as Ryanair prises open their wallets yet again, to extract an ‘ignorance fee’. But as we all know: “ignorance of the law is no excuse”.

Here are some of the top ‘Universal Myths’ that are burned into the retinas of all Ryanair ground crews………

  • The cabin bag allowance sizes doesn’t include any handles and wheels.
  • If your bag is only a little over the published maximum allowed size, you won’t have to put the bag in the hold and pay extra charges.
  • If your bag is only a little bit overweight you won’t have to pay any extra baggage fees.
  • If you are only a little bit later than the published last checking in time, you can still check in. They will wait.
  • Even though Ryanair is a point to point service, you still have access to a comprehensive customer service system and can make changes to your bookings for free.

There were so many contenders for the top five all time myths, that next time this list will be a top ten all time Ryanair myths, easily.

Remember this post on your next flight out and read the rules! Oh, and if you find a Ryanair staff member taking a break and having a quick snooze, but muttering “it does include the handles madam, it does, it does, it just does” in his slumber, you’ll know why……..
