With its warm climate and golden beaches, Tenerife is best known as a sun seeker’s paradise. Less than five hours from the UK, it has more days of sunshine than more far-flung destinations, making it a year round holiday hot spot. Tenerife isn’t all about beaches and lazing by the pool though, there’s plenty to keep you occupied if you’re craving some excitement after all that rest and relaxation.

Scubayaci Diving Centre, Las Galletas
A fantastic way to explore the most beautiful diving sites in the Canaries, with a choice of 30 dive locations. Whether you’re a complete beginner or fully qualified, there’s something for everyone. You can opt for group or private lessons and there’s even a shady beach to relax on after all that exercise. All instructors are PADI qualified and will chat you through the theory behind diving, giving you that extra bit of confidence before heading out to the deep blue yonder.

Loro Parque, Puerto de la Cruz
Set in a lush and eco-friendly environment, this is Tenerife’s most popular wildlife park. While strolling around the beautiful grounds you’ll see everything from parrots, dolphins and seals to jaguars, gorillas and tigers. If you’re looking for something with real wow factor, don’t miss the breath-taking whale show or the aquarium with its sub-aquatic plexiglass tunnel. You can grab a snack at a number of reasonably-priced cafes if you’re feeling peckish.

Eden Catamaran Tours Puerto Colon, Coste Adeje
The south-west coast of Tenerife is one of the best places in the world to watch whales and dolphins, and with 29 of the world’s known species passing through its waters you’re virtually guaranteed to spot some. Tours last 2 -3 hours and a guide is on hand to tell you all you need to know about the abundant sea life. There’s also the option of snorkelling if you want to get up close and personal with the natural habitat.

Siam Park, Costa Adeje
Europe’s largest water theme park, this has something for all the family. Set in a tropical oasis inspired by Thailand, you can spend all day splashing around on the rides, which range from gently relaxing to downright hair-raising. If you need a break from all the adrenaline, why not wander around the picturesque grounds or catch some rays on the mini beach. Don’t forget to say hello to the friendly sea lions.

Off Road Buggy Excursions, Las Galletas
If you fancy escaping the tourist trail, try a guided buggy excursion. This company offers seven two-seater buggies, which are a great way to see the island’s unspoiled scenery including mountains, caves and pretty fishing villages. You can also stop off at bars and restaurants en route that you might otherwise miss. The buggies are automatic and easy to drive, giving you all the fun of an off road experience.
