The Best Beaches Around Malaga

Malaga is slap bang in the middle of the Costa del Sol so when it comes to beaches you’re going to be spoiled for choice.  The best beaches around Malaga are probably the best known but there are so many to choose from that it’s worth putting in a little research to find exactly the type of spot you are looking for – whether it’s cool and beautiful or buzzy and ripe for people watching there will be a beach near Malaga to your taste.  If you’re looking to accommodate visits to a large number of beaches in the area then it might be an idea to consider a hire car as this could work out cheaper and more convenient than buses and taxis.

La Misericordia Beach on the outskirts of Malaga is a pretty rural beach.  It’s also very wide so if you like beach games then this is the beach for you. San Andres beach is also on the outskirts of the city and not one of the most picturesque beaches in the area.  It does however have plenty of wind so if you have a keen kite flyer in your party this will make for an excellent day out for them.  Caleta Beach is a great option as it’s a lovely looking beach and has plenty of facilities to cater for parties of all sorts.  It also has a lovely view overlooking the Port of Malaga.  El Candado is a similar type of beach, good looking and well equipped with picturesque views of the rest of the coastline.

Playa Torrox is around 30 miles up the coast from Malaga and may seem like a bit of a hop for a day by the sea but is definitely worth it if you’re looking for a quieter beach option.  It’s a small beach, only 300m long but tends to be much less crowded in the summer. Playa Almayate Bajamar in Velez Malaga is much larger at 4km long and is currently one of the locality’s only unspoilt beaches (although there are plans to develop it).  It’s also a nudist beach so don’t bother bringing your swimming trunks! Playa Benajarafe in Velez Malaga is nearby and regarded as only of the best beaches in the area with 4km of dark, soft sand.

Nearby Torremolinos has 7km of beaches, including Los Alamos beach, which has a children’s play park and Bajondillo Beach where you can take part in a game of beach volleyball or two. La Carihuela Beach is the biggest of Torremolinos’ beaches and well equipped for families and sunseekers, with plenty of watersports on offer as well as hammocks and beach volleyball.

Other excellent beach options nearby, include San Pedro de Alcantara: Linda Vista which has clean white sand and clear water, San Pedro de Alcantara: Guadalmina Beach which is perfect for watersports of all kinds and Puerto Banus which has a palm tree lined promenade and a mini golf course. Fuengirola beach is also worth a visit as its esplanade is one of the longest in the country, and Fuengirola: Los Boliches is a beautiful sight as it is covered in metres of fine, golden sand.
