For us Brits, Australia is a favourite holiday destination, and it’s easy to see why. Warm temperatures year round mean surfing, beach babes, barbeques and bronzed skin. Our antipodean cousins also share our sense of humour and no nonsense approach to life, making Oz a veritable home from home for us ‘limeys’
The only downside about travelling to Oz is, well, the travel. Located in the Southern hemisphere and essentially the other side of the world, Australia’s popular East coast is typically a 23 hour flight from London Heathrow, although this includes a stopover, usually in Asia.
Of course many are prepared to brave the mammoth journey to get a taste of famous Australian landmarks like the sun-kissed Gold Coast, Ayers Rock and the stunning cities of Melbourne and Sydney. This got me thinking however, what exactly could you do in 23 hours?
You could burn 11,500 calories in the gym, that’s the equivalent of twenty-five in flight meals!
You could watch the entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy two and a half times!
You could walk 75 miles (at a steady pace of 3mph), or the distance from Brighton to Southend!
You could drive from London to Sofia in Bulgaria, non-stop
You could fly from London to Madrid and back 5 times!
You could complete last year’s best selling game ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ 4 times, if you’re good!
You could around 1,500 Tweets, so long as you’re a fast typist!
In fact if you are a fast typist and can average 60 words per minute, you could type a total of 82,800 words, the equivalent of a PhD dissertation!
You could cook 690 steaks, provided you like them rare!
You could watch 55 episodes of Neighbours, Australia’s finest export!
While the thought of a 23 hour flight might be daunting, actually doing some of this stuff might make you feel a little better about kicking back, watching a couple of in flight movies and eating some peanuts. That’s unless you’re feeling particularly productive of course, in which case you could start (and finish) that novel!
