The picturesque islands of the Caribbean tempt all types of travellers, but Barbados has a certain aura of sophistication above and beyond its neighbours, which has helped establish its reputation as a favourite of the rich and famous for many years.

That doesn’t mean a holiday in Barbados has to cost the Earth though, and you could find great deals on villas and luxury resorts at some of Barbados’ best beaches when taking advantage of special offers and booking your holidays ahead of time. There are certain times of the year when Barbados is flooded with tourists, particularly during international holiday periods, so travelling outside of peak season could help your travel money go further.

When choosing where to stay in Barbados, you should consider the type of activities you’re interested in. If relaxing on the beach and celebrity spotting are on the agenda, the idyllic and developed west coast could be the best option, which is where the most exclusive accommodation options can be found. By contrast, the east coast is wilder and more rugged – ideal for adventure seekers and those looking for a more authentic experience of island life. Even if you choose a more remote resort though, you’ll never have to worry about being too far from restaurants and bars catering for all your needs.

There are many activities to take part in around Barbados, many of them situated close to the major resorts, or even within the premises. Scuba diving and snorkelling are popular pastimes – whether you’re a first timer or an experienced diver looking forward to exploring some of the world’s most stunning coral reefs. Sports such as golf have also made their mark on the island, where you’ll find championship courses sanctioned by PGA.

More fun can be had out at sea by taking a catamaran cruise around the island and to nearby sites of interest, which typically offer the chance to swim with turtles. If you’d prefer to head inland, there are various ways to explore the interior of Barbados, depending on your preference – whether you prefer to walk, or to tackle the terrain in a 4×4.

Another aspect of Barbados that shouldn’t be missed is its sophisticated range of cuisine, which is complemented by a great drinks selection and some of the liveliest nightlife in the Caribbean – meaning the fun can last well into the night on your Barbados holidays.
