Scuba Diving on Vacation

Underwater diving has been performed from ancient days, in search of food, treasure and valuables. Nowadays it is conducted for research purposes, to study undersea living beings, for thrill and for recreation.  Though water contains oxygen, humans do not have gills and have to depend upon external devices for oxygen.  Divers used to carry basic oxygen cylinders but these had their disadvantages as they could be used to stay underwater for long time. So came the need for an advanced model and scuba sets replaced the old conventional models.

The breathing gas in a scuba set is compressed, allowing divers to stay underwater for a significantly longer time. This made scuba diving popular and attracted sports and thrill lovers.  Many recreational scuba diving clubs were formed. These organizations are mostly self regulated and they train, certify divers and instructors. Many holiday locations provide courses in scuba diving for those who come on vacation. They teach people how to dive over a few days and a certification card is issued.

There are a number of worldwide bodies that train scuba diver instructors in the art of training others how to scuba dive.  In any resort where scuba diving is popular, it is easy to find a qualified instructor to take one through the basics of scuba diving, if one has not been scuba diving before.  There are some dangers attached to scuba diving, and as such many travel insurance policies will not cover accidents that happen during scuba diving.

Some holiday resorts have this course as part of their vacation package. The theory behind scuba diving is taught in a classroom, then the actual skills are taught in the swimming pool and the skill of the students is tested in open water. The learners are taught about the scuba equipment, basic re-breather skills, dive planning, diving, vocational techniques and logical skills. Even children above six years of age are allowed to train for the ‘basic snorkel diver’ qualification.

Thus, scuba diving had popularized underwater diving, underwater videography and photography. This adventure is sometimes offered as a tour package with a combination of underwater photography, fish identification, exploring the residues of sunken ships, exploring reefs and the exciting array of sea animals. Thus, diving gives a thrill to the divers and a stunning experience of the beauty of the underwater world. This is attracting more and more people towards this sport.
