Keeping in communication when travelling the world can be at great cost. Whether for business or for personal use there are a number of ways to save on international cost communications and still maintaining a professional image. Saving cost through good management and technology, not just cheap options, makes good sense. By thinking ahead and knowing your needs, and using technology you can save large amounts on all your travel costs with cheap travel insurance, discount flight fees and particularly your communication budget. Here are the 3 best ways to manage your communication needs while travelling internationally and save you amazing amounts of money.
Having a Skype or VOIP service number. Skype or other VOIP service numbers are a great way to have a stable number at all times and very good for use in business or for personal reasons. Skype numbers are very cheap to purchase and you can set up your number for the country you are in or for the country that you mainly receive phone calls from to save cost for those who will be calling it. These calls can be accessed through wireless internet connections or through your internet services on the SIM card you are using. While travelling from country to country you can still retain the same number for others to call. Calls from Skype numbers in particular are incredibly cheap compared with normal call costs and you can save huge amounts of money on the cost of roaming and paying for others to contact you while you are overseas. Sometimes this kind of call may even be cheaper in domestic situations even when your Skype number is actually calling from another country!
Jump from one free wireless location to another. It is amazing how many places in the world including many of the world’s top airports give free internet access. More and more internet access is considered a standard international norm and not a premium paid service. Many of the better airports even offer free use of computer terminals for those who prefer not even to carry laptops. This is a great way of not exposing your own equipment to viral threats. If you can use someone else’s why not? As your Skype number in particular will have built in voice mail and a range of other services you can have a record of all those calls while you were on a flight or out of free wireless range. Utilising this and the first suggestion together can really save you a lot of money.
Buying pre-paid SIM cards. Comparing the costs of your existing SIM card and that of roaming pre-paid SIM cards and you may find that travel SIM cards are often better value for money. These SIM cards are widely available and cover a huge range of countries, and because the companies that operate in this business specialise in the service of roaming SIM cards, you will probably have much cheaper costs that roaming with your usual SIM card. Often pre-paid travel SIM cards don’t have call back charges or diversion charges that you would normally expect. A normal pre-paid card in each country is a great way to manage your budget and still give you cheap local calls and internet access for your VOIP number when you cannot use free wireless. Combining this third tip with the first two and you have an amazingly efficient and extremely cost effective communications while maintaining a professional image and unchanging contact point for others.
Make sure you save and investigate all the ways you can save when you are doing business. Technology is allowing for greater savings in all areas of travel, travel insurance, flight costs, communications and especially in saving huge amounts of money when making voice calls. I have one domestic number and what I call my roaming number to my clients (actually my Skype number.) Get smart, get hooked up and save a lot of money.
