Turn Back the Clock at Redstone Inn
The Redstone Inn is a scenic three-hour drive from Denver. Redstone is one of the few places in Colorado where the land is occupied but remains relatively unspoiled. It is a place where face to face conversations are the chosen mode of communication instead of mobile devices. In fact, cell coverage doesn’t exist at the Inn but if you must indulge, 3G coverage is only a few miles down the road. There is a business center located at the Inn with fast internet available free to all guests. Guests can always be reached by calling the main hotel number.
A Very Brief History of the Inn
The Inn was built for the coal miners working for John Cleveland Osgood and was a social experiment. Osgood provided a place for the miners and their families to live. These units included indoor plumbing and electricity, which were very rare commodities at the time the inn was occupied by miners.
The Community of Redstone
This tiny mountain village town has so many educated and well-read people in it, conversation is a delight. The entire town is on the National Register of Historic places. The people are efficient and extremely aware of our planets limited natural resources. In this town, businesses work together to ensure a great hospitality experience for all visitors.
Amenities
The mattresses and bedding are all new and fresh but if you like that bleached smell on the sheets in hotels, you will miss it at Redstone Inn. The beds are extremely comfortable, well maintained and a perfect end to your day, whether your choice was to relax or be invigorated with all the activities. Each room is equipped with a new wide-screen TV along with plenty of light. Having two doors in the room seems to invite visitors to enjoy the sounds of the Crystal River nearby and encourages you to engage in the free evening ritual of a glass of wine, cheese or lemonade on the veranda after dinner from June through September.
If you opt for a room with a private bath, you can presume the bathroom décor to be dated but in good working order. Although the rooms are extremely clean, expect the floors to be squeaky adding to the ambience of the old world inn.
Food and Drink
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast, Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 11 am in the Bar and Grill. Free coffee is available beginning at 6 am in the grill for the early risers.
The food is extremely fresh and cooked to perfection, whatever you preference may be. Steaks are perfectly aged and tender enough to cut with your butter knife.
Fun things to do
Carriage/sleigh rides are available year around and are a real treat to each person, complimenting the atmosphere perfectly. Randy Owen, owner of Avalanche Outfitters provides the carriage/sleigh rides. Check out his website at redstonestables.com. There are also ski lessons for the kids in the winter.
Don’t want to give up your running exercise? You don’t have to. Pick up a trail guide at the front desk. There are miles of trails nearby to run, walk, or hike that will accommodate all skill levels. Enjoy the abundance of wilderness areas with running trails to save those joints. The elevation is 7192 feet above sea level so staying hydrated is crucial to an enjoyable work-out. Biking and 4-wheeling are also available as Redstone is surrounded by the White River National Forest.
If you are a skier, Marble, Aspen and Glenwood Springs are less than an hour drive from Redstone.
Browse and shop “The Boulevard” for special gifts and treasures of your stay, snacks and water for your hike, run, horseback ride or next adventure of your choice. For your sweet tooth, you will find fresh homemade food items such as cinnamon rolls and brownies. Enjoy eating at any of the many restaurants on “The Boulevard” for the fresh well-prepared food and genuine friendliness.
The natural unspoiled city is a photographer’s haven! Very few places stir the emotions as deep as this one does. The different hues on the red cliffs surrounding the Inn are spectacular from dawn to dusk.
Pleasant Surprises
The Inn has a fitness center and hot tub available for guests the entire day. Indulge in a single or couples massage available to guests by reservation. The salon takes appointments for all things hair and nails in case you have an emergency.
A huge warm and inviting room with a fireplace is relaxing and cozy in the cool evenings during the fall and winter months. It is a perfect place to unwind and read or talk with other guests.
A private fishing preserve is available by reservation, which is a delight when your feet are sore from your daily exploration. When you need a little down time, this is the place to visit.
The Inn has a recreation room where you can play pool and foosball for $5/hour. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
There is a small Art Center on The Boulevard with a sculptured garden and studio gallery. There are artist demonstrations and exhibits during the summer and fall seasons.
Surprises that could be a problem
Redstone Inn is not equipped with an elevator so if physical limitations prevent stair climbing, choose one of the bed and breakfast places on the Boulevard for your stay.
Rooms are spacious, fresh and very clean but do not include refrigerators or microwaves.
