Hong Kong – Another Universe

Hong Kong is a completely irresistible conundrum – more than just a city, this amazing place is a blend of ancient cultures, modern business enterprise and cosmopolitan influences. As a global industry giant, many people tend to overlook Hong Kong as a tourist destination, because they assume that it is all business all of the time. But there is far more to Hong Kong than meets the eye. It is a warm, inviting city that offers some truely unique vacation experiences. Hong Kong is a cultural melting pot that will keep you begging for more. So what should you do when you are in Hong Kong?

Night Market

One of the most striking experiences for any visitor to Hong Kong is the night market. As the sun sets, the streets shut down and thousands of stalls open in the roads. They sell everything from clothes and CD’s to high-tech software and advanced technologies. As you walk down the crowded streets you are hit by an overwhelming number of sounds, sights and smells. The smells are perhaps the most intriguing, as they drift into your mind from any one of the hundreds of food stalls and restaurants. While the food stalls are great for a treat on the run, such as a waffle smeared with hot peanut sauce, but if you really want to have a unique experience, treat yourself to a night market dinner. The restaurants are tiny, often smaller than a hotdog vendor in the United States, but they have every kind of seafood you have ever imagined. All of the food is kept alive, and when you choose what you want, the expert cooks grab the exact fish or prawns that you have chosen, and flash fry them in a steaming wok. The food is fresh and simple, and completely delicious. Your dinner is served to you as you sit on a beer crate in the middle of the road. This really is one of the experiences of Hong Kong that breaks down all of your misconceptions about the city as a stiff, economically-minded metropolis.

Ocean Park

Located a short cable car ride away from the mainland (an enjoyable trip in itself), Ocean Park is a massive entertainment resort that offers visitors a unique experience. Many visitors travel there for the rides alone – The Abyss sees guests plunge a hundred feet downwards while they are strapped in to a chair. Many less intimidating rides are also available, as are opportunities to see and learn about natural flora and fauna. This beautiful, clean park is a must see, as are the panda bear and winter wonderland parks that are located in the same vicinity. This blows away any lingering feeling that Hong Kong is just a business centre!

Fine Dining

The big business world has had a positive influence on the food and wine culture in Hong Kong, as only the best is considered fit enough to grace the tables of some of the world’s finest restaurants. Indulge in the luxury and enjoy your incredible holiday of contrasts, culture and excitement!
