On askalo, people ask questions and exchange recommendations, advice, and suggestions about new experiences in an area. askalo users also receive points and awards for their activity and are ranked to display who is providing useful tips about that city.
City questions
askalo is based on the idea that when people want the best information about a place, they
prefer to ask a local person who knows his or her way around. If, for example, a person is
looking for the best lasagna in Washington DC, he or she can ask for suggestions from users in the DC askalo community who have eaten lasagna at many different places in Washington DC. askalo users can ask any city-related question by posting their question into a green ‘ask’ box located at the top of every page. Users can browse similar questions which already have answers, or post a new question to be answered by other users.
City answers
askalo gives people, who are interested helping others get to know their city better, a platform to share their local knowledge with others who are looking for new experiences in that city. If a person has much experience shopping for affordable designer clothes in New York, on askalo he or she can give money-saving answers to questions about shopping in New York. askalo users can find and answer questions about their city by entering any topic into the orange ‘answer’ box at the top of the website, or by choosing from a list of categories such as Going Out, Shopping, and Services. Users can also find unanswered questions simply by browsing the “unanswered questions” link featured on their city’s homepage.
City fun
askalo seeks to add a sense of fun and trust to asking and answering city-related questions by rewarding quality information with points, levels, and awards. Users are rewarded for asking and answering questions, voting for answers, and inviting new users. Points show who is providing helpful tips about their city, levels allow users to do more on the website, and awards let users earn titles such as “San Francisco Rockstar,” to highlight how they have helped their askalo community.
