Anyone on a budget has read, and tried, all the ways possible to save on their next holiday. We are all familiar with the most common tricks, such as using comparative websites, or flying on a budget airliner; however, there are a few travel planning secrets you may not yet be aware of. By researching all angles, and pooling all your informational resources, you can be sure you’re getting the best price possible on your next vacation. Here are just a few secrets you can use next time you’re planning on traveling.
- Be flexible: this is a tip you’ve heard before, but the difference is, you should consider this on a broader scale. Yes, you can fluctuate your flight dates by a couple days and save a little, but if you choose the right time to book, you could be saving a lot more. It is said, the best time to look for the lowest flights is three months prior to your estimated dates. You should also consider looking for a month out of peak season; for example, May provides great, mild weather, and will help you avoid crowds and peak prices in just about every European destination. For those who are extra flexible, consider booking last minute. Whether it’s a cruise, a flight, or a package, you can get your dream vacation at a fraction of the price by booking a last minute deal.
- Think outside the hotel: many opt for hotels for their accommodation during their holiday, but this is easily one of the most expensive options. If you haven’t ever considered it before, broaden your options by searching for other accommodation options, such as a Bed and Breakfast, a hostel, or even a budget hotel. Hostels are no longer youth only, they are a great way to save money and enjoy the same basic facilities a hotel offers, including a private room and bathroom. After all, you’ll only be there when you’re ready to sleep, so you can cut out all of the overpriced luxury features you’ll never use.
- Look for discounts: a discounted price is one thing we’re all used to looking out for, but there are other ways to receive discounts that are no so obvious. Plenty of sites offer to hunt down the best deal for you, but you can find additional savings by researching your options. For example, there are online discount code websites that provide vouchers for everything from your rental car, to your hotel, and more. These are simple, free codes you can use to increase your savings even more. Don’t forget to bundle your travel booking all together, as there are increased discounts when you book your flight, car hire, and accommodation all through the same provider. Creating your own package can often be cheaper than pre made offers created by travel websites, so you should always compare the final price of all your options (make sure it includes taxes, fees, and other costs) before committing. Although they advertise something as “the lowest price”, odds are you’ll find something cheaper after these “hidden fees” are added.
