A Day Out with Mum

A Day Out with Mum

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Mother’s Day is on Sunday 3rd April this year, so why not treat your dearest mum like a queen and make her feel extra special for the day? Of course mums should be spoilt all year round; however, if you have been a little slack over recent months you still have time to redeem yourself.

Here are some suggestions of how to make Mothers’ Day great! Remember, she most likely wiped your snotty nose, did your washing and ironing and read you bed time stories, so say thank you and spend some quality time together.

1. Favourite Place

Whether it’s the local coffee shop that sells the very best homemade chocolate cake, or an art gallery in London, enjoy a delightful trip out to your mum’s favourite place. Bring a smile to her face and take an interest in what she really loves to do — she is sure to appreciate it.

2. The Chocolate Connoisseur Class (http://www.thecocoabox.co.uk/)

Does you mum adore all things chocolate? If yes, The Chocolate Connoisseur class with The Cocoa Box is the ultimate surprise this Mothers’ Day. Make your own mouth-watering handmade chocolates and even learn how chocolate can be good for you. Alternatively, why not enjoy an ultra-indulgent Cupcakes and Cocktails or Cookies and Cocktails class and take home your very own treats?

3. Spa Day

Treat your mum to a luxurious spa day, so she can unwind and let the worries of the world drift away with a relaxing massage or a stress- busting facial. Many spas offer 2 for 1 deals on treatments or pamper days; so have a look around your local area and find the best package. Go along together or, if it’s not your thing, suggest she take a friend so they can feel like royalty and natter the day away.

4. Theatre Break

Book a London theatre break and experience a magical weekend away in the heart of the capital. Enjoy a top London show in London’s glamorous West End before staying the night in a hand-picked hotel and experience the best of the city. Tailor your perfect break and select from a range of fantastic productions from the all-singing, all dancing musical Legally Blonde to the much-loved classic Blood Brothers. There is something to suit everyone, so spend a few days in the city and make memories to last a lifetime.

5. Visit a Castle

If your mum is a history buff, what better way to spend Mothers’ Day than with a trip to one of the UK’s fascinating castles? Retrace the footsteps of royalty at Warwick Castle and watch out for the ghost that haunts the Watergate Tower or even head to Windsor Castle and check out the Round Tower with its gothic-style battlements. Unravel history and admire the spectacular architecture and beautiful grounds of these historic sites.

6. Cadbury’s World

If your mum is a true chocoholic, why not head to Cadbury World for a choc-tastic adventure? Discover how chocolate is made, learn all about the cocoa tree in the Aztec Jungle and see a 3-D story all about how cocoa beans were brought to Europe. Head to The World’s Biggest Cadbury Shop and treat your mum to her favourite yummy snack before heading home with plenty of goodies for the journey.

7. Eden Project

Come along to the Eden Project and enjoy a fantastic short break to this top UK attraction with the whole family. Ideal for nature lovers, avid gardeners or anyone who loves an adventure, the Eden Project is a wonderful place for a weekend away. Explore the world’s largest greenhouses, trek through the rainforest and admire over a million plants from around the world. Enjoy astonishing views from the top of the Rainforest Lookout and discover interesting facts about the world around us.

8. Shopping

Whisk your mum off shopping and enjoy a special day together in town. Tell her you will treat her to an outfit of her choice and even buy the accessories to go with it! Maybe she needs a new suit or an outfit for an upcoming wedding? If so, this is the perfect time to spend some money and make her look and feel a million dollars.

9. Walk, Hike, Bike Ride

You really don’t need to have a large budget to spend some quality time with your mum this year. Gather the family and enjoy a walk, hike, or a bike ride around your favourite route. Stop off at a pub for a refreshing drink on the way and even put the slow cooker on in the morning so a delicious meal is waiting for you in the evening. Enjoy plenty of laughs and a fun-filled day together.

10. Eat Out

Mothers’ Day is on a Sunday, so head to your local pub and enjoy a delicious carvery. Spend the afternoon in each other’s company and dig into a mouth-watering roast without worrying about washing up. If you already have plans in the day, book a table at your mum’s favourite restaurant in the evening and head out for dinner. Make the most of your night together and go all out by ordering a starter, a main and even a pudding if you have room — it is a special occasion after all.

Show and tell your mum how much you love her this Mothers’ Day by spoiling her rotten. Make a homemade card, buy her some flowers and don’t let her do any chores. Mums deserve to be treated, so pull out all the stops and make the day special.

For a traffic jam free Mother’s Day trip out to see London family shows, companies such as Show-and-Stay.co.uk offer cheap london theatre breaks by rail. Great if you want to give mum a day off driving and enjoy a more relaxing weekend.
