People didn’t use to travel much during their winter breaks, but recently that trend started setting in. Whether it’s for skiing, or to be somewhere with snow, or perhaps even the opposite: to go somewhere warm, winter traveling has become a reality that nobody can ignore anymore. And while some people are lucky enough to have all that they want for their winter travels at a close distance, others need to fly out somewhere to fully enjoy their winter break.
One of the great things of travelling in winter, especially in December, is that you may get a Christmas bonus to help you out with the traveling expenses. This makes flying somewhere new and perhaps even somewhere exotic a lot more attractive. Some of us have a desperate need for sun because we live somewhere where winters are harsh, so going to the other hemisphere where the temperatures are much higher is an attractive perspective.
We’ve set up a list of some of the more popular winter travel destinations, by no specific order. We tried to include different options so it wouldn’t all appeal to the same crowds, so we hope you enjoy it!
New York
The city that never sleeps is always welcoming to tourists in winter. It has many attractions that only come out during winter, like the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Plaza, for example. It’s also a great place to spend New Year’s Eve. People seem to enjoy New York because of its romantic feel in the winter and because so many iconic places, like Central Park, look very pretty in winter, with snow.
Las Vegas
If you’re into partying, Las Vegas can provide it for you non-stop. The warm temperatures of the Nevada desert may not be the ideal setting for a white winter, but going to Las Vegas is not so much about what to you outdoors, but about the fun you have indoors.
Cancun
Mexico is a great place to spend your winter holidays, and Cancun definitely takes the cake. It has amazing resorts that will leave you wanting to come back every time the temperatures drop in your hometown, and a lot of fiesta and good food to go with it.
The Alps
The ultimate ski holiday trip has got to include the Alps. No matter on which part of the Alps you stay and what language is primarily spoken there, you will have your fill of excellent skiing conditions and of great lodging. And with the advent of “cool” snow sports like snowboarding, it’s sure to be fun for the whole family.
Hawaii
Although not as warm as in the summer, Hawaii remains a great place to visit in winter. It’s often been described as the ultimate beach destination because you can get it all. You can stay at amazing hotels and have all the commodities of living in a large city, like access to plenty of restaurant options and entertainment venues, but also experience paradisiacal beaches and scenery that’s simply breathtaking and looks unspoilt.
