Millions of people visit the city of Amsterdam each year, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, has been able to conserve its oldest buildings and attractions. The city is comprised of 145 nationalities; 96% are Dutch and 4% make up other nations. Spending a day in Amsterdam will give one an exciting and unforgettable experience.
When deciding on taking a trip to Amsterdam, air is the most popular way to arrive. Whether it is within Europe or it is international, there are many cheap flights to Amsterdam available. Amsterdam airport is the 4th largest airport in Europe, so there are a large number of flights available to and from major cities throughout the day. In addition to air travel, visitors also arrive by boat, bus, or train.
Amsterdam, known as the cultural capital of Holland, has many cultural events in the city. Travelers cannot visit Amsterdam without taking a stroll across one of the lovely canals that the city as to offer. Tourists love to take a canal boat ride, where they can see the beautiful city in a different way. Amsterdam has over 50 museums, many of which are world-famous. Probably the most popular museum in Amsterdam is the Rijskmuseum, which consists of an assortment of impressive Dutch art, including many by Rembrandt.
The Van Gogh Museum also is well-known and 200 paintings and 500 drawings by Van Gogh. A visit to Amsterdam will not be complete without seeing the Anne Frank Museum, located in the home of Anne Frank. Visitors can see the house where Anne Frank and many others hit from the Nazi’s during World War II. This is a sobering experience to get a peep at the place where the brave girl wrote her famous diary.
Located in the middle of everything is Dam Square, where tourists pack the Amsterdam’s world-famous cafes and shops. People love to sometimes just sit in the cafes and relax and watch other visitors or drink the coffee. Amsterdam has many historical buildings to visit, such as Oude Kerk, the oldest church in Amsterdam. The city also has many stunning bridges to view. In addition, a person cannot visit Holland without seeing a windmill. Amsterdam consists of 8 gorgeous windmills in the middle of the city worthy of the camera.
For a stay in Amsterdam, there are accommodations for everyone, ranging from luxury landmark hotels to modest hotels. Some even prefer to rent a houseboat on one of the canals. Since Amsterdam is known for its nightlife, the lodging located in the Red Light District or Rembrandtplein Square is near loud bars and clubs. Most hotels come with breakfast and there really are not any accommodations in Amsterdam that would be considered dirty or run down.
Amsterdam has something to offer for people of all ages. Visitors leave content and satisfied that they were able to see one of the most famous and historical cities in the world.
